With the introduction of ‘LittleBits Synth Kit’ last week, we stepped into MakerMovement which is all about hands-on creativity through project-based learning that engages with STEM. MakerMovement in Music allows students to develop their creative minds in music by making DIY music technology such as ‘LittleBits Synth Kit.’
James arranged a ‘MakerSpace’ – a classroom set up for MakerMovement – for us to explore different types of technology that can be used to produce music.
- Bare Conductive Touch Board: use electric paint to play music

Bare Constructive Kit
Paint it! Play it!
- DIY Short Circuits Project Kits: guitar distortion unit, guitar sustain unit, guitar practice amplifier etc.

Don’t have a guitar pedal? Make your own!
- DIY All Transitor Theremin: Create music in thin air!

- Micro:Bit : Code, download, then lights & music!
It’d be amazing to have a ‘MakerSpace’ in the classroom in the future. However, there are always problems with costs and don’t forget there’s limited time to teach music! But having a mini music technology would be quite fun!
