There’s no use if we learn a skill and not put it to use, right? So this week we had a chance to apply the filming techniques learnt previously. Thanks to pianist Lolita Emmanuel allowing us to record her stunning performance of James Humberstone’s ‘Second Fantasia’, we were able to film some great material.
We were lucky to be booked into one of our halls and set up all the equipment (plus more cameras) that we had used in week 2. As Angus was our director he chose where all the cameras would go. We had a fixed shot, panning shot, close up of the player and hands, hand-held, and wide shot which caught the full view of the hall. We also set up a dynamic mic and condenser mics into the piano, and also the zoom mic to catch the overall sound. We had an incredible time filming and this would be great to apply in music classrooms, teaching students to perform and record would be a valuable skill as musicians!
