Sequencing
My very first blog on what I’ve learnt in music technology. We had our first class in Technology in Music Education and learnt about sequencing.
Music sequencing means is using a program to record and create music, and arranging and editing the music. We learnt that now days, the terms sequencer and DAW are used interchangeably. We began with using Soundtrap to learn and experiment with looping, which is basically what the name suggests, a musical material repeating in a ‘loop’. Then we played around in sequencing the recorded audios and MIDI tracks resourced in Soundtrap.

It is possible to have changing volume on the individual tracks and to also have different effects such as panning, delays and etc.
New fact learnt! On Soundtrap, there are two types of tracks. MIDI and audio tracks. MIDI tracks allow you to change the specific notes or beats by using the ‘piano roll’ or ‘beat sequencer’ but audio files are recorded live so you can only add effects to it rather than changing individual notes or beats.

Soundtrap is an amazing tool to use to compose and teach sequencing to students. It is most useful to students who are not familiar with the traditional notation as they don’t need to know how to read music notation to compose on Soundtrap.
